Green Team Twente
Green Team Twente is a multidisciplinary student team of the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences, consisting of 22 students from 4 different countries. With fossil fuels running out, an alternative must be found. Green Team Twente is convinced that it has found the alternative. In fact, Green Team Twente is the living proof that efficient and sustainable driving on hydrogen is possible!
The students of Green Team Twente build a hydrogen car with which they participate in the world's largest efficiency race. This year, the event will take place from the 5th until the 8th of July in London. With this race, where they became European champions last year (!), they want to promote alternative fuels and the fact that they are a full-fledged competitor of fossil fuels. Moreover, they show that engineers from Twente are worldclass engineers. The team offers students an excellent opportunity to develop in a broad area of expertise. Green Team Twente is also actively working to spread its knowledge and vision to a large audience; from primary school students to adults, everyone should be aware of the wonderful possibilities of hydrogen.
The fuel cell is at the heart of this city car of the future. A fuel cell is a stack of membranes where hydrogen gas is converted into electricity and water. This electricity is then used to power the car. So, it is actually an electric car! Without this part, there is no electrical energy. This makes it essential for a moving vehicle. At the moment, a fuel cell that is already quite a few years old is used. A lot of progress has been made in the field of fuel cell efficiency. To ensure performance at the highest level, a new fuel cell is of great importance. Unfortunately, new fuel cells are very expensive. When purchasing this, the team can really use all the help they can get. 1 diaphragm in the complete membrane circuit costs € 100, -. To obtain the right specifications, 50 membranes are required. This means that € 5000, - is needed to make a completely new, hyper efficient fuel cell. Support Green Team Twente and help achieve their goal: building the city car of the future!
