Solar Boat Twente 2020
Will you help Solar Boat Twente to fly?
We are a team of dedicated and enthusiastic students at the University of Twente who are building the boat of the future! Solar Boat Twente promotes environmental awareness through the use of sustainable energy in the maritime sector.
This year the multidisciplinary team will focus on building a reliable, "flying" solar boat. As a team, we are entrepreneurial, interested in technology, innovative, environmentally aware, competitive and, where necessary, support each other to develop a reliable solar boat that can fly above the water. By pushing the boundaries of technological innovations together with our partners, we have a great challenge: designing and building the boat of tomorrow.
In 2020 we will participate in the Solar Sport One competition, the Dutch Championships in Akkrum and the World Championships in Monaco. As the third Solar Boat Twente team, we want to lay a technical foundation for future teams. That is why this year we mainly focus on the proper adjustment and optimization of last year's prototypes. The hydrofoils are a very special part of our boat. These ensure that our boat can "fly" above the water. By flying we reduce the resistance of the water so that we use less energy, or use our energy more efficiently!
This year we will make the wings and the associated struts themselves from carbon. We do this because we can produce our hydrofoils thinner and lighter this way. The wings will be made of solid carbon. To guarantee quality, we have to cut this layer by layer and put it in the mold. The struts will be made in a similar way, only they will get a foam core to save weight. This foam is self-swelling and will therefore perfectly fill the space in the strut. In this way the strut is very light and thin, but very strong and waterproof. In order to be able to pay a part of the wings and the associated struts, we need your help!
All the little bits help, for a small contribution you can help us make the boat fly! It would help us enormously if you would support us with a contribution on this crowdfunding platform so that we can fly over the finish during the races!
